What is the Raigmore Active Travel Link?

The Raigmore Active Travel Link will consist of a link to encourage walking, wheeling and cycling from the existing Golden Bridge to the Raigmore Interchange. The route will allow access to Inverness Shopping Park from the Raigmore Interchange via Inverness Campus, removing the need for those walking, wheeling or cycling to cross busy roads.

Work to construct the active travel link will begin with the preparation of the site from 19th April 2021, with work commencing on 3rd May 2021. It is hoped that work will be completed in September 2021.

Updates on the project will be shared on this website. Please note: Bus services will be unaffected for the duration of the work.

The link will consist of a ‘Z’ type layout to provide a gentler incline and will be four metres wide to allow easy access to pedestrians, cyclists, wheelers and mobility scooters. The width of land available was limited, so the active travel link will be supported by sheet piles, which will be clad in Ekki hardwood. The scheme also includes a guardrail, a continuous handrail, path lighting, active travel link signage and a landscaping scheme. Links are also provided via steps to the existing ramped path within the site.
